A Community of Snap! Educators – New Features and Tools for Teaching AIK12
Spring 2025 marks 12 years since Snap! was first used with students and the Snap! Cloud was developed for sharing projects. Since then, nearly 1 million students and educators have worked on almost 10 million Snap! projects. This BOF brings together the growing community of Snap! users, teachers, and core developers at SIGCSE.
Building on the success of our 2023 BOF, we continue the conversation about Snap!’s role in pushing the boundaries of blocks-based programming. The recent Snap! 11 release introduces significant enhancements for teaching neural networks—from building perceptrons to multilayer networks—alongside improved accessibility features and a new online documentation system. Additional features like the primitive color data type make media computation more intuitive and easier to teach, opening new possibilities for creative computing projects.
This session provides an opportunity for teachers to share success stories, classroom resources, and pedagogical strategies while giving the development team direct feedback on features and priorities. Whether you’re new to Snap! or a longtime user, join us to discuss what’s working in your classroom, what challenges you face, and what features would best support CS education. Notes, projects, and examples from this BOF will be shared online after the session at https://bjc.link/snap-bof-sigcse-2026
