The use of analogies or metaphors when teaching and learning computer science is ubiquitous. It helps instructors break down difficult concepts and allows students to build new knowledge on top of what they already understand. This BoF aims to create a community that shares ‘Sticky’ analogies – analogies that demonstrate important concepts effectively and stick with students. It will bring together educators to discuss analogies that they have used (both successfully and unsuccessfully). Attendees will take away analogies that they had not considered previously that they can use in their own classrooms, brainstorm new analogies that build off the ideas shared by other attendees, and help all attendees identify characteristics that are likely to make additional analogies successful. A document will be created as the session progresses to capture the ideas that were discussed so that it can be shared with participants once the session is over.
