Feedback Beyond Departmental Industry Advisory Boards: The CRA Practitioner-to-Professor Survey
What do computing industry practitioners—varying in age, experience, and culture—think of undergraduate computer science education? What do they value the most based on their own undergraduate experience and what they see in the graduates they hire or work with? These were some of the questions addressed by a collaborative effort of eight universities across the US, which ultimately led to the Computing Research Association (CRA) launching a national-scale Practitioner-to-Professor (P2P) Survey to provide useful information for computer science programs.
Unlike broad all-major surveys, P2P focuses on computer science with a level of detail aimed at providing actionable feedback. The goal of this special session is to summarize the results from the first P2P Survey, including several surprising outcomes, and to engage participants in a workshop-like manner to reflect on how the survey results could be useful to their programs. Attendees can expect to learn how their programs can benefit from the 2024 P2P results and how to propose questions for future P2P surveys.
