Erik received his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Utah State University in 2006 and immediately entered industry as a software engineer at Spillman Technologies Inc. in Salt Lake City.
During a 13-year professional software engineering career, Erik translated theory into practice and gained a strong understanding of what makes software reliable, maintainable, and scalable. He found that his most rewarding work involved mentoring peers, leading technical trainings, and speaking at conferences. After earning his Master’s degree in 2016, he transitioned to academia and joined the Computer Science department at USU. His teaching emphasizes practical developer skills, with a particular focus on helping students become confident and effective users of command line interfaces. Erik lives in Logan with his wife and three children.
